COMPUTER-AIDED GENERAL PIPING DESIGN SYSTEM: S-BOPPS

Considering a long-range vision concerning design work of steam power plants, IHI has developed a new system-synthetically called "S-BOPPS", to increase efficiency of piping design work, utilizing a large computer. In this new system, we can obtain an output of isometric drawings that have functions for the erection at site and preassembling of pipes and fittings inside the ship, and of concerning documents by high-speed plotter. As this system adopts a man to machine system with a graphic display, a piping designer can easily input or revise information data as routine work. For example, as soon as the piping designer inputs pipe specification data, basic point data, and line data from the keyboard of a graphic display, an isometric drawing appears on the graphic display. If the piping line of the drawing is against the designer's will, he can revise the input data from the keyboard at once. This system is applicable not only to steam power plants but also to any other plant or facility dealing with piping equipment.
