SETTLEMENT STUDY OF A SATURATED SOIL UNDER DYNAMIC LOADS

This paper reports the results of the studies conducted on the consolidation characteristics of a clayey soil subject to various repeated impact loads. Instrumented tests are performed to study the effect of various factors affecting the consolidation. The consolidation characteristics are highly influenced by factors such as thickness of the sample, magnitude of the falling weight, its height of fall and frequency of application and the initial void ratio of the sample. The results are presented and discussed in this paper in light of the instrumented tests performed. (a) (TRRL)
