Portable plants have developed from simple screens to sophisticated plants capable of producing crushed, sized and clean aggregates from practically any usable source. Portable jaw crushers can handle ripped or quarry blasted rock to provide a graded product suitable for sub-base. Production of fine crushed rock generally requires two crushers and plants to manufacture aggregates may require three crushers because of the finer aggregate sizes required for asphalt purposes. Screening and stockpiling equipment is also required. Plants producing from river gravel sources require a different arrangement of screens and conveyors from those crushing quarried rock, and flexibility of the purchased equipment is necessary. The range of plant commercially available is such that it is unlikely that a portable crushing plant of proven design could not be applied to road construction material production. (a) (TRRL)
