PHOTOMETRY OF ROAD SURFACINGS

LA PHOTOMETRIE DES REVETEMENTS ROUTIERS

After recalling the notion of luminance used in the field of public lighting, the authors deal with the characteristics of road surfacings: (1) laboratory measurement of luminance coefficient with a goniophotometer; (2) measurement of parameters (brightness or specularity coefficient) characteristics of in-situ reflective properties; in order to improve the measurement of those two characteristics it is proposed to make it in-situ with a reflectometer which has an evenly luminous surface spherical in shape. Comments are made on the practical problems of measuring road surfacings for their photometric characteristics. (TRRL)
