RAIL TRANSPORT AND ITS IMPORTANCE FOR NATIONAL ECONOMIES--TODAY AND IN THE FUTURE
DER SCHIENENVERKEHR UND SEINE BEDEUTUNG FUER DIE VOLKSWIRTSCHAFT--HEUTE UND IN ZUKUNFT
Starting from the viewpoint that the railway must meet the long-term needs of the national economy or society, the specific characteristics and the technical possibilities of rail transport are discussed together with future tasks and the importance of the railway for the national economy. Attention is also drawn to the fact that in spite of the unsatisfactory financial situation of the railways in terms of operating profitability, it would be unthinkable to dispense with this transport system in the future.
