ELECTRIC ENERGY CONFERENCE, BRISBANE, 17-18 MAY 1979. PREPRINTS OF PAPERS

The conference is sub-titled "The Potential for Electric Transport Systems in Australia". While electric tramway systems and more recently electric vehicles have seen considerable engineering development, electric transport systems over long distances and applications in the mining and industrial areas have yet to be explored in Australia. In an era of diversification of energy resources the use of electric energy derived from coal, of which there are large sources, seems highly desirable as an alternative to current methods of operation. This conference is concerned with looking into the future with regard to philosophy, planning, power supplies and services, motive power and rolling stock, signalling and communication systems, mining applications and general economics. It presents the latest overseas practice and discusses present and future plans for Australian transport systems, including a townobile electric city transit system, and the economics of electric busways.
