DEVELOPMENTS IN WATER SCIENCE, 6. PIPELINE DESIGN FOR WATER ENGINEERS. CHAPTER 11. LAYING AND PROTECTION
The process of route selection for a pipeline is described, and practical advice given on trenching, and laying pipes. Types of bedding for pipes are illustrated. Short sections are included on thrust boring, pipe bridges and underwater pipelines. Various types of joints and flanges are illustrated and described. Coatings and linings for buried are considered. Reference is made to corrosion which sometimes occurs to protected pipes due to galvanic corrosion and stray current electrolysis. The author describes the method used to prevent this problem. Finally, a short section is devoted to thermal insulation and the method for its calculation. (TRRL)
