EXPERIMENTAL PSYCHOLOGICAL COMPARISON BETWEEN HYPERTONICS UNDER PERMANENT TREATMENT AND NORMOTONICS WITH REFERENCE TO DRIVING PERFORMANCE

EXPERIMENTALPSYCHOLOGISCHER VERGLEICH ZWISCHEN HYPERTONIKERN UND DAUERMEDIKATION UND NORMOTONIKERN IM HINBLICK AUF KRAFTFAHRSPEZIFISCHE LEISTUNGEN

The object is to determine whether and in which way it is possible to differentiate, in regard to their driving-specific performance, between hypertonics, treated with the newly developed antihypertonic drugs, and normotonics - without performance-affecting illness or drugs. The test group and control group were partnered according to sex, age and intelligence and all test persons were patients of a hospital. The guinea-pigs were given various traffic-psychological driving aptitude performance tests in acute trials. The investigation produced no evidence to show that there is a considerable encroachment upon the driving-specific performance of high pressure sufferers treated over a long period with antihypertonic drugs compared to that of normotonics. Significant indications on sex-specific differences in the preparation effects were recognisable. The results gave no support to the view that hypertonics, who for a long time have been subject to proven antihypertonic drugs, should generally be excluded from taking part in road traffic. In certain cases it is recommended that a traffic-psychological investigation should be undertaken in order to be certain that no vital deterioration in driving ability has occurred. (TRRL)
