HYDRAULIC CHARACTERISTICS OF THE PUMPING OF CONCRETE PAVEMENTS

HYDRAULIQUE DU PEMPAGE DES CHAUSSEES EN BETON

This article studies the dynamic role of the water in the erosion of the surface of the subbase. The data on which the study is based are qualitative information collected on existing pavements, the slabs of which have lifted. Hydraulic characteristics calculations are given, the results of which converge to enable the conditions under which the phenomena occur, to be defined. A model of a cavity under the slab was needed to show clearly the relation between the hydraulic parameters (rate of water evacuation, instantaneous pressure), the effects of heavy traffic (deflection, loading rate) and plane dimensions of the cavity. One of the main aims of this research is to characterize each material in the subbase and improved subgrade in terms of an erodability threshold. (TRRL)
