ARE WE SIMPLY ROAD DAUBERS? THE SIGNIFICANCE OF CARRIAGEWAY MARKING FOR ROAD SAFETY
SIND WIR WIRKLICH NUR STRASSENPINSLER? BEDEUTUNG DER MARKIERUNG ALS FAKTUM DER VERKEHRSSICHERHEIT
The effectiveness of carriageway-markings in relation to traffic accidents is discussed from the viewpoints of traffic policy and economics. There is also discussion of the present state of the technology, both as regards materials and their application, and the objectives of the "carriageway markings" working group - particularly in relation to traffic safety problems - are explained. A federally enforced regulation for the width of lane-marking stripes is proposed - namely 30 cm for motorways and 18-20 cm for other roads. (TRRL)
