VERKEHRSUNFALLFORSCHUNG AN DER MEDIZINISCHEN HOCHSCHULE HANNOVER - ORGANISATION UND ZIELE

The report provides a comprehensive review of the three years' work carried out by the accident research team, founded in 1973, where objective was the possibility of improving accident recovery, the prevention of accidents and a reduction in the severity of accident casualties. In order to work towards these objectives a precise knowledge of the cause, happening and consequences of accidents is necessary. This information is collected by the research team by direct investigation and interviewing at accident sites, documentation about treatment of casualties in hospital, post-mortems on fatalities carried out from the legal-medical standpoint and by vehicle inspections. The collected data from 670 traffic accidents have been fed into a computer using magnetic tape and may be easily evaluated according to various requiremnts. (TRRL)
