Recent Efforts to Enhance Road Safety in Nepal

This paper provides an overview of road safety in Nepal, which has been a neglected issue in the last few decades. There has been no lead agency authorized to plan, design, implement, and coordinate road safety programs. Loss of life due to road accidents is around five persons per day, which is a significant number compared to the population and small vehicle fleet. Recently there are road safety programs and efforts dedicated to enhancing road safety. A Road Safety Council is about to be formed and a road safety strategy and action plan is in place.
