WAVE HEIGHT AND ENERGY DISTRIBUTION IN NORWEGIAN WATERS

Long-term probability distribution functions of the generalized gamma distribution form have been established for wave height observations from 18 Norwegian weather stations. Corresponding long-term distributions for the flux of wave energy also appear in the generalized gamma form. This allows a closed form expression for average wave power density. The dimensionless coefficients required to evaluate average wave power at the 18 weather stations numerically, have been expressed by moments of the wave spectrum, and determined by theoretical wave spectra, Wave Rider records and reported wave data.
