NOISE REDUCTION BY LIMITING ROAD TRAFFIC. COMPREHENSIVE DESCRIPTION OF POSSIBILITIES, EXAMPLES AND EXPERIENCE

LAERMMINDERUNG DURCH BESCHRAENKUNG DES STRASSENVERKEHRS. ZUSAMMENFASSENDE DARSTELLUNG VON MOEGLICHKEITEN, BEISPIELEN UND ERFAHRUNGEN

This paper describes the possibilities, of operating a system in partly traffic-free residential areas, of bans on loud vehicles during particular times when protection against noise is needed, of concentrating traffic on already highly loaded highways and of speed limits as various means of obtaining noise reduction. As these measures may be carried out without great cost, it is recommended that their use should be considered more frequently. (TRRL)
