A GONIO-REFLECTOMETER FOR THE MEASUREMENT OF ROAD SURFACE SAMPLES

EIN GONIO-REFLEKTOMETER ZUR MESSUNG VON STRASSENBELAGSPROBEN

This report introduces the work of the gonio-reflectometer of the Institute of Illuminating Engineering at Karlsruhe, which has been specially developed for the measurement of wet road surface samples. It is shown that the apparatus basically works according to two different principles. The first principle is modelled upon actual circumstances in street lighting when a light source is moved in a straight line at a constant height above the sample. In contrast to this the light source, according to the second principle, moves at a constant interval, i.e. Along a circular arc around the centre point of the sample. The conception of the gonio-reflectometer is fully described and the recommendations of CIE publication no 30 are compared. The accuracy of the apparatus is considered and comparisons made with measurements by the illuminating engineering laboratory in Copenhagen. (TRRL)
