BASIC CONSIDERATIONS CONCERNING THE IMPORTANCE OF GREEN LANDSCAPE WORK (SLOPE STABILITY BY VEGETATION)

GRUNDSAETZLICHE UEBERLEGUNGEN ZUR BEDEUTUNG DES GRUENVERBAUES

Knowledge of the importance of the biological relationships, environmental consciousness and nature-related thinking positively affect the aim towards a connection between technology and the landscape. The function of green landscaping (slope stability by vegetation) is to fulfil landscape-ecological roles and to maintain the care of the landscape. The objective aimed at is for self-maintenance of the green landscape in the ecological system. The areas of activity of green landscape are divided into the following groups, in which for each a survey is given of the method in which they are effective, a summary of types, preparation works, planting-out methods and the objective aimed at: (1) landscape work on inland waters related to water levels. (2) landscape work on slopes and hillsides. (3) landscape work on flat to moderately sloping areas with ground having no vegetation and areas used for agriculture. (4) landscape work on roads and housing estates. Green landscaping works must be regarded as a part of the overall landscape maintenance and must not be treated as a supplementary embellishment. Landscape planning must be implemented well before the start of construction works. Appropriate training for landscape architects is a necessary prerequisite for this problem. (TRRL)
