THE "ROKKO OHHASHI" STAYED GIRDER BRIDGE AT KOBE (JAPAN)

LE PONT HAUBANE "ROKKO OHHASHI" A KOBE (JAPON)

The authors describe the principal elements and the characteristics of the bridge, the structural analysis, the cable anchorages, the deck, the supporting frames, the cables, the wind tunnel tests, the manufacture, assembly and erection of the bridge. This stayed girder bridge has a central span of 220 M; it was designed as a bridge with two decks each of three lanes; the main beams are in the form of a warren girder and the deck structure is of orthotropic steel plate; the cables are anchored at right angles to the joints of the upper members of these beams and arranged in fan shape; both upper and lower decks are fixed to members of the main beams and may be considered as part of the slabs of these beams, in order to participate in the distribution of the bending moments; the two main beams are 13.80 M apart and the deck plates are supported only by cross beams at intervals of 2.50 M; the two frames are located symmetrically and consist of two pylons with a transverse member, forming an "h" shape; they rest on piers.
