RADIOSCOPY: A NEW POSSIBILITY FOR THE INSPECTION OF ENGINEERING STRUCTURES

UNE NOUVELLE POSSIBILITE D'EXAMEN DES OUVRAGES D'ART: LA RADIOSCOPIE

The author examined the feasibility of using a televised system of radioscopy utilizing the same sources of radiation as in high-energy x-rays and providing almost instantaneous data so as to exercise an overall control of injection quality. Details are given of the solution selected to convert gamma photons into light photons for high-energy, giving an image as clear and sharp as possible which is then analyzed with a low-light intensity camera. The image appears on a television screen and can be recorded on videotape. The first photographs produced have shown that the system of radioscopy finally selected facilitated an acceptable examination of concrete injection up to A thickness of 45 cm with a 250 ci cobalt 60 source and up to a thickness of 1 M with a linear accelerator giving 700 rad/mn at an energy of 10 mev. A brief outline of in-situ utilization is given. (TRRL)
