GRAVES-CIMENT: 1) CARACTERISTIQUES MECANIQUES ET PHYSIQUES-RESISTANCE EN TRACTION ET DEFORMABILITE DES GRAVES-CIMENT

Modern pavement design methods require the determination of mechanical characteristics such as tensile strength and depormation modulus. Test methods have been developed by the LCPC to fulfil this requirement. They were used to show variations in the mechanical characteristics of gravel-cement as a function of various mix-design parameters, which are classified here into two categories: (1) parameters with an influence on the volumetric characteristics of mixtures (granularity, compaction, cement proportioning). In particular it is shown that it is possible to characterize a gravel-cement mixture for a given moisture content by a single parameter linking cement proportioning and compaction, this single parameter is called cement volume batching; (2) parameters linked to physicochemical phenomena (age of gravel-cement, mineralogical nature of gravel, moisture content, retarders).
