DEFORMATIONS OF BUILDINGS AND STRUCTURES IN A CHEMICAL FACTORY IN BALAKOVSK BUILT ON SWELLING SOIL
DEFORMATSII ZDANIJ I SOORUZHENIJ BALAKOVSKOGO KHIMICHESKOGO ZAVODA, VOZVODIMYKH NA NABUKHAYUSHCHIKH GRUNTAKH
The authors describe the differential settlements observed over 6 years and analyze the cause of this phenomenon. The latter is supposed to have been caused by a variation in the level of the water table and in the moisture content of the different soils together with an increase in the salt content of pore water due to leaks of sulphuric and phosphoric acid. It is concluded that the design of the foundations of chemical plants should take into account the variations in the mechanical characteristics of the subgrade, variation due to wetting with various chemical solutions.
