STUDY OF THE CRACKING OF A ROCK MASS FOLLOWING VIBRATIONS CAUSED BY A DRILLING TOOL

ISSLEDOVANIE TRESHCHINOVATOSTI MASSIVA PO KOLEBANIYAM, VOZNIKAYUSHCHIM NA BUROVOM INSTRUMENTE

The rock mass is considered as a source of information regarding the disturbances imposed on the steady vibrations of the drilling tool by faults in the structure (cracks) of the mass. The results obtained with an experimental device are presented. Good correlation was obtained between the state of cracking and the recording of the tool vibrations. This would appear to supply a simple and reliable method (as reliable as seismic processes) for judging the degree of cracking of rock masses. (TRRL)
