RAISED REFLECTIVE PAVEMENT MARKERS: INSTALLATION, PERFORMANCE AND SPECIFICATION

This paper was presented at Session 36 - Signing, Delineation and Guidance 1. Raised reflective pavement markers have become an accepted delineation device by most highway authorities in Australia. This paper describes experience to date in the selection, testing and specification of the markers and adhesive by the Country Roads Board, and the organisation and methods used to install and maintain large numbers of markers under traffic. The subsequent in-service performance of the markers is discussed and estimates are given of the life and long term cost of raised reflective pavement marker installations, together with an appraisal of the deficiencies of the original specification. A model specification for the supply of markers is included. (TRRL)
