This paper introduces a new approach to the design and planning of signal-controlled junctions which involves the channelisation and segregation of right-turn traffic at a "sub-junction" on the approach road. The theoretical capacity of the junction can thus be increased considerably. This kind of junction is dubbed the Hong Kong signal junction. The paper shows how a Hong Kong t-junction and a Hong Kong cross-junction can be laid out and phased, as typical examples to illustrate how the idea works.(a) (TRRL)
