THE ELASTIC ANALYSIS OF CELLULAR STRUCTURES CONTAINING WEB OPENINGS
Opening are frequently placed in the webs of multi-cellular strutures. The paper describes the application of a simplified grillage approach to the elastic analysis of such structures. The introduction of web openings resutls in a significant reduction in the shear and torsional stiffness of the structure. Such effects can be taken into account in the grillage method by the use of appropriate reduction coefficients. Empirical curves, derived from a parametric finite element study, are presented so that the values of the coefficients may be determined. A comparison of the results obtained for structures of different proportions with different sizes of web opening establishes the accuracy of the procedure. (a) (TRRL)
