EFFECT OF TEMPERATURE ON THE STABILITY OF ASPHALTIC CONCRETE

INFLUENCIA DE LA TEMPERATURA EN LA ESTABILIDADA DE HORMIGGON ASFALTICO

A summary is offered of the research conducted with the purpose of determining the effect of temperature changes on asphalt concrete. Studies show that asphalt concrete is not only affected by an inadequate temperature at the time it is poured at the site, but also by the fact that the preparation of the mix at a given temperature can cause its inherent properties to vary and also change its behaviour at a later stage - under certain conditions. The maximum stability value is attained when the aggregate temperature is 12 deg C higher than that of the asphalt. (TRRL)
