BONDING BY TEMPORARY PRESTRESSING

SPREZANJE S POMOCU PRIVREMENOG PREDNAPREZANJA

Composite road bridges have mostly been constructed as a series of simple beams with spans of 20 to 30 M. The bond has been achieved by temporarily supporting the beams in the middle of the span during slab concreting and by applying the reaction of this support when the concrete has cured. To avoid the temporary support, which is often quite expensive, the author suggests introducing the force by means of temporary prestressing of steel beams. The bond can also be achieved by joining several spans into a temporary continuous beam. Three different methods of bonding have been analysed theoretically and applied to a standard span of 24.0 M.
