URBAN TRANSPORT IN GREATER BANGKOK (THAILAND)

A review of urban transportation problems associated with a the end of the Don Muang Airport Highway in the northern suburb Din Daeng to the port in Bangkok, Thailand. The km2 with a road network of about 1/4 km of city streets per km is presented. Some of the factors affecting traffic conditions are described, and possible solutions to such problems discussed. These are related to short-term improvements which have been implemented; medium-term projects as recommended by the Bangkok transportation study such as an expressway system, a mass transit system and A piles. The first contract is from the Don Muang Airport Highway to Makasan Rail Line and the third contract involves building the port interchagne. (TRRL)
