9 DE JULIO AVENUE: ANALYSIS AND SELECTION OF A FUNCTIONAL DESIGN FOR THE DOWNTOWN AREA
AVENIDA 9 DE JULIO, ANALISIS Y SELECCION DE UN DISENO FUNCIONAL PARA EL AREA CENTRAL
The 9 de Julio Avenue in the City of Buenos Aires will provide access and parking for the central business district. To select a functionally adequate design for the highway, a computerized network representation was developed for the highway system of the year 2000. This included a schematic representation of all the traffic links that could be potentially foreseen in the downtown area. It was discovered that traffic wishing to use the 9 de Julio Avenue only within the central business district could be better accommodated on the adjacent streets which would be improved and traffic signals coordinated. The 9 de Julio Avenue will provide better service to motorists travelling for longer distances, and will make the use of the highway system more attractive to traffic paying tolls. (Author)
