TRAINING IN CONSTRUCTION

CAPACITACION EN CONSTRUCCION EN EL MARCO SOCIAL, JURIDICO Y TECNICO DE LA EDUCACION EN MEXICO

In Mexico, public and private efforts to meet the schooling needs of children and youths will reach their goals in 1982. But a grave educational lag, which means that 20 million Mexican adults have not been schooled or fulfilled their basic education, presents serious limitations to development of industry and to employment opportunities. Legislation passed in 1977 and 1978 broadened training horizons and obligated employers to participate in the national effort. The construction industry, with the support of the Mexican Road Association and the International Road Federation, has for the past 25 years participated with the assistance of the Center for Training on Machine Operators. The Center has now become part of a recently-organized institution--the Training Institute for the Construction Industry. The author explains the results obtained to date and ideas for the coming years. (Author)
