INFORMATION SYSTEMS IN THE ADMINISTRATION OF HIGHWAY OPERATIONS
LOS SISTEMAS DE INFORMACION EN LA ADMINISTRACION DE LAS OBRAS VIALES
In the daily operations of the Ministry of Human Resources and Public Works, there is a continuing process of decision-making which converts flows of information into control signals. The information flows through a complex series of interconnected channels, which supply data on fiscal matters, monetary investment, recruitment of staff, construction projects, and equipment purchasing. A device called SIDI-SAHOP (Integrated Information System of the Ministry of Human Resources and Public Works) has been designed which makes possible the collection, screening, processing, storage, retrieval, and distribution in timely and accurate form of relevant and reliable information needed in the decision-making processes of the department. The author describes the development of the SIDI-SAHOP system, along with its current structure and operation, and presents plans for its medium- and short-term development. (Author)
