A CRITICAL ANALYSIS OF TRAFFIC SIGNS
UN ANALISIS CRITICO DE LAS SENALES DE TRANSITO
There is such a large amount of traffic signs in use today in the cities that the only result, in many cases, the total confusion and disorientation of the highway user. In rural areas, the problem is even more serious since the lack of appropriate signs, and their incorrect placement, also produce disorientation in the road use and has an adverse effect on safety. Lack of maintenance makes the situation worse. The author stressed the importance of information signs that help the road user to orient himself. The proper design of this type sign is very critical, as bad design practices can have direct adverse effect on road safety, especially on high speed roads. The author presents a number of suggestions, which, if implemented, would improve the safety of drivers and passengers on the country's streets and roads. (Author)
