MODERN TECHNIQUES FOR HIGHWAY LIGHTING

MODERNOS TECNICAS DE ALUMBRADO VIAL

The author presents the latest general recommendations on highway lighting published by the International Lighting Commission (C.I.E), which are as follows: Publication No. 12.2 (1977) "Recommendations for Lighting Motor Vehicle Roadways" and Publication No. 30 (1976) "Calculation and Measurement of Luminance and Illuminance in Highway Lighting." He includes a short introduction on lighting theory to make the luminotechnic terminology more understandable. He analyzes the parameters that must be considered in designing the lighting system for a highway, such as the luminance of the roadway, control of dazzling, and provision of a visual and optical guide. He describes the methodology of computer use for designing lighting systems, with emphasis on its application on the urban highway system of the City of Buenos Aires. (Author)
