This chapter is a summary of an investigation concerning the transport sector. The aim of the investigation was to (1) map out the compulsory and voluntary testing that at the present time is found within the energy field, (2) map out the technical testing that has been proposed or brought to the fore in different contexts, (3) make an inventory of resources and competence for energy technical testing within the public and the private sector, (4) work out a prognosis for demand on different kinds of testing appointments within the energy field and estimate the need for methods, competence and resources to meet this demand, (5) accomplish an economic analysis of the consequences of the introduction of new or extended instructions on testing within the energy field, (6) analyze the need for measures on the part of society concerning extent, direction, financing and organisation of technical testing within the energy field. The following parts of the transport sector have been treated, (a) cars, (b) energy conserving accessories of cars, (c) towed vehicles, (d) lorries and buses, (e) motorcycles, mopeds and snow scooters, (f) leisure boats, (g) alternative fuels, (h) alternative propulsion systems.
