THE INFLUENCE OF VIBRATIONS ON HUMAN PERFORMANCE

VIBRATIONERS INVERKAN PAA MAENNISKANS PRESTATION

Vibration affects performance of man in many ways: (1) it can directly affect parts of the human body in a preventing or facilitating way. (2) it can indirectly affect by stimulating or disturbing the man during or before a manoeuvre or a judging moment. (3) it can give rise to a changed activity and therefore affect the man's degree of wakefulness directly or after a while. There are a number of mechanisms through which the vibration can be expected to affect and reduce human performance. Above everything motion of head and eyes can be expected to cause visual blurring and difficulties in keeping and finding fixed points. This report describes reduction of performance in three ways: (1) visual reduction (2) motor reduction (3) disturbances and changes in activity in central processes. (TRRL)
