THE SAINT NAZAIRE-SAINT BREVIN BRIDGE

LE PONT DE SAINT NAZAIRE-SAINT BREVIN

The Saint Nazaire Bridge over the loire is approximately 3350 M long. Its central part is a metal stayed girder bridge 720 M long (404 M central span, two 158 M side spans) and two access viaducts comprising 22 and 30 spans respectively built with precast prestressed concrete girders of a 50 M span. The following aspects are studied: (1) erection with a specially designed launching girder of the precast girders of the access viaducts; (2) aerodynamic stability of the stayed girder bridge, influence of turbulent flow, presentation of the solution selected to ensure safety (deflectors); (3) original mounting of the metal bridge spans, which uses self-raising systems.
