DISPERSANTS FOR OIL SPILL CLEANUP OPERATIONS AT SEA, ON COASTAL WATERS AND BEACHES
General background information concerning the formulation, composition, and usage of materials intended to disperse oil is provided which gives general guidelines for the formulation of dispersant materials. Details are also given of the specification for dispersants used for oil spill clearance at sea, on coastal waters, and beaches. The procedure to be followed in submitting dispersants for approval is also described. Relevant Warren Spring publications concerning usage of dispersants are listed. This report has been produced primarily for use in the UK. Although it may be expected that materials rated as "good" by specified procedures used in the UK, would give a similar "good" performance elsewhere, they would not necessarily do so. Under conditions of higher or lower temperature or salinity, there may be some change in performance rating. The cloud point, flash point, etc. given in the specification may not be appropriate for those areas of more extreme climatic conditions.
