Integrated Risk Management

The Swedish Transport Administration has during the past two years developed a new integrated approach for risk management. The reason for the development was that the organisation had difficulties in applying different standards and working procedures that were related to risk management. Two central challenges were how risks, critical continuity and occurred events interact with each other, and if it was necessary to manage and evaluate them by different processes, methodologies and tools. The new integrated approach for risk management forms the basis for a systematic and structured management of threats, opportunities, occurred events, continuity of critical operations, and an appropriate capability within these areas. The Swedish Transport Administration’s integrated risk management approach is based on the international standards ISO 31000 (risk management), ISO 22300 (societal security), ISO 9000 (quality management), ISO 27000 (information security management systems), COSO ERM (enterprise risk management), and in addition for railway applications, CSM* (common safety methods).
