Effect of Texturing for Sliding Surface of a Piston Ring by Means of Ultrashort Pulse Laser on Friction Reduction

超短パルスレーザーによるピストンリングの テクスチャリング加工が摩擦力に及ぼす影響

Applying a texture to the piston ring surface has been suggested as one of the means of friction reduction for fuel economy approach of automobiles. The effect of the texture of the top ring on friction reduction was investigated in this study. Texturing was carried out by means of ultrashort pulse laser, and the friction force was measured using a floating liner device. It was found that the texture caused 10-20% FMEP reduction. It was also shown that the texture was effective for large reduction of friction loss in case of severer lubrication conditions. It was supposed that the texture caused an improvement of lubrication condition.超短パルスレーザーによるトップリングテクスチャリング加工の摩擦低減効果を確認した.測定には,浮動ライナー装置を用い,エンジン実働中の摩擦力の比較を行った.トップリングに高い筒内圧が作用するクランクアングルで,摩擦低減が確認された.
