Analysis of Intersection Risk Factors – Connections on the Road from the Aspect of Traffic Safety

The complex process of road exploitation, or the process of traffic depends on many factors, and among others, particularly important are the safety parameters and functional elements of the road. Planning and design elements of the road is an extremely complex process that should be conducted in accordance with clearly defined rules and standards. The chronology processes from design to construction of each road item there are a number of specific actions such as auditing, supervision, technical acceptance, which essentially have a preventive character and which should contribute to better quality and functionality of road elements, and safer and more efficient traffic flow. In addition to the above, in the process of exploitation of roads and components of functional elements, there are procedures such as maintenance, reconstruction, rehabilitation, that basically have a corrective character and also significantly affect the safety of traffic. This paper presents an analysis of the problem of intersections in the area of risk factors at connections, or entrances to public roads in terms of traffic safety. The analysis of regulations and standards in the context of this issues has been done, and the specific examples of practical application have been presented. The main problems and shortcomings in the whole process from design through construction to operation, and recommendations for improvement, and enhancement of the level of traffic safety.
