VEHICLE REPLACEMENT CHARTS - A DESCRIPTION

The report is intended as an aid to transport operators in deciding when to replace vehicles on an individual basis. The point at which it is most economic to replace a vehicle is defined as the age at which the total cumulative cost of operating the vehicle, expressed as an average annual cost, is at a minimum. This total cost is made up from two elements, depreciation cost and upkeep cost. The report is a companion to vehicle replacement charts in report no C216 and describes in general terms the principles on which the charts are based and how they may be used.
