Application of excavated soil from Walloon construction sites : environmental requirements and expected developments

Toepassing van uitgegraven grond van Waalse bouwplaatsen : milieueisen en verwachte ontwikkelingen

Circular economy is becoming more important. In Europe, the aim is to follow the principles of circular economy in the management and application of land excavated in civil engineering, albeit with some difficulties and within the own rules of each country or even every region. This is evident from a comparative European study from 2017, which took stock of the regulations and practices in seven European countries. In order to achieve a circular economy, new developments must therefore take place. In Wallonia, the Decree of 14 June 2001 lays down the environmental requirements for the reuse of land excavated on construction sites. This article is an analysis of this decree.
