The HEXACO Model of Personality and Risky Driving Behavior

The authors investigated the potential of the HEXACO Personality Model for predicting dangerous driving behavior compared with the Big Five Personality Traits model. 1,227 college students were assessed for driving aggression under the two models, while 2,244 members of the public were assessed for driving styles. Results indicated that an important addition to personality models would be an Honesty-Humility factor. It would relate to every form of driving aggression as well as careless driving styles, and it is a valid factor in the prediction of verbal aggression, risky driving and speeding, as well as careful driving. Finally, as a method for predicting risky behavior and aggressive driving, HEXACO proved to be better than the Big Five model.
