Israel's history has helped it create an aerospace and defence industry that serves a highly-demanding domestic military and is a prolific exporter. From state-owned Israel Aerospace Industries to entrepreneurial start-ups, the sector is renowned for its innovation and breadth of technologies. Just ahead of the Singapore show--a major shop window for Israel's industry--we spent four days visiting some of the key players, in and around Tel Aviv, and in the north of the country. Commercial break : Israel's biggest aerospace and defence contractor remains a force in its core market, but wants to increase its presence in civil aviation -- Targeting the east : Israel's weapons manufacturer is pitching systems at several Asia-Pacific nations, as they look to add new types to their defence fleets -- Lighter loiterers : UAVs that can wait poised to strike their target are an area of focus for Israeli manufacturers, as they push to develop ever-smaller solutions -- Start-up nation : with many of them born out of military necessity, Israeli industry has spawned a host of innovations. It remains a nation bursting with ideas.
