UTILIZATION CONCERNS OF POTENTIAL TRANSPORTATION FUELS

This paper identifies and discusses the known utilization problems for fuels which have been identified as likely near and mid-term alternatives to petroleum (synthetics from oil shale and coal, and alcohols from various sources). The focus is on distribution and handling, material compatibility, vehicle performance, fuel economy, environmental effects, safety and toxicity, and potential utilization in alternative engines.
