Parking management to support sustainability

Several cities are using mobile technology and payment systems to improve the ease with which drivers can find available parking and pay for it. Sensor and data analytics technologies are also being used to inform the management of parking to reduce noncompliance and improve the availability of parking. These measures can assist cities to improve the efficient use of their limited parking assets to improve customer and business outcomes and support sustainable transport and land development objectives. This paper examines how technology can support innovative policy approaches to the management of parking and their implication for customer experience and sustainable outcomes. These technology and policy approaches are illustrated with examples of cities where these have been implemented.
