ACCIDENT INVESTIGATION STUDIES - STAGED REAR IMPACT COLLISIONS
The Accident Investigation Division (AID) of the National Center for Statistics and Analysis has been interested for several years in obtaining certain information on various impact modes and vehicle types through staged collisions. The specific data needed has been incomplete or unavailable for the majority of staged collisions. Collisions reported establish data on rear impacts, a mode for which little data is presently available. The information collected includes documentation of trajectory, residual crush, braking and steering forces, and tire marks for each vehicle in each test.
