Study on Oil Flow Up through Piston Ring Gaps

ピストンリング合口経由のオイル上がりに関する研究

It is important to specify the paths of oil flow up for reduction of lubricating oil consumption (LOC) in reciprocating engines. In this study, transparent cylinder liner made of sapphire is used for observing the behavior of oil-flow-up. Oil film thickness and oil film velocity are measured with laser induced fluorescence (LIF) method and particle image velocimetry (PIV). As a result, it is determined the thickness of oil on the piston land and the velocity of oil flow through the piston ring gap. It is also found out that the accumulated oil on the top land is scattered over combustion chamber.オイル消費改善のためにオイル上がりのメカニズム解明は重要である.合口付近のオイル挙動を可視化するためシリンダライナにサファイアを用い,レーザ誘起蛍光法でランド部の油膜厚さを計測した.その結果,オイル上がりの経路が明らかになり,さらにランド部または合口部を通過する油膜の速度を求めることができた.
