Elongation Property Improvement by Controlling Intermetallic Compound Crystallization of Alloy Made from Recycled Aluminum for High Pressure Die Casting Wheels


The authors developed recycled aluminum alloy for motorcycle wheels manufacturing using HPDC (High Pressure Die Casting). So far, virgin ingot aluminum has been used because the elongation property deterioration was an issue. In order to make the elongation property equivalent to the virgin ingot alloy, the optimum amount of manganese (Mn) at an appropriate solidification rate in HPDC was determined. The crystallization configuration of iron-based intermetallic compounds that affects the elongation property was controlled. As a result, 97% reduction of CO₂ emission in the material production was achieved with recycled alloy compared to virgin ingots.二輪車のHPDC製ホイールは従来,新塊合金が用いられてきたが,リサイクル材を原料とした合金を開発した.伸び特性を新塊合金と同等とするためHPDCの凝固速度における最適なMn添加量を決定し,伸びに最も影響の大きいFe系金属間化合物の晶出形態を制御した.これにより,合金製造時のCO₂排出量を97%削減できた.
