SHORT-TERM FORECASTING MODEL FOR TRAFFIC FLOW ON A MOTORWAY

MODELE DE PREVISION A COURS TERME DE L'ECOULEMENT DU TRAFIC SUR AUTOROUTE

This report studies traffic laws and describes a macroscopic deterministic model simulating motorway traffic. Experiemental data collected on the Autoroute de l'Ouest (Western Motorway) were used for the study. Flow/occupancy rate curves were plotted and used to test a forecasting model based on the wave theory. A good approximation was obtained in the prediction of traffic congestion. An example is given.
