A Numerical Study on Evaluating the Performance of a Turbocharged Spark Ignition Natural Gas Engine


Natural gas is one of the most promising alternative automotive fuels for its favorable combustion characteristics and availability to address environmental and energy issues. A numerical simulation model has been developed to achieve high efficiency, downsizing and weight reduction in a spark ignition natural gas engine by utilizing an intercooled turbocharging system. The model includes combustion, turbocharging and intercooling processes. An additional model is combined with the model to predict knock occurrence associated with unburned end gas and combustion chamber surface temperatures under both steady state and transient conditions. Thus, the model developed can optimize the spark ignition timing to achieve high thermal efficiency along with avoiding knock.天然ガスは石油系燃料に対して有利な燃焼特性を持ち,天然ガスエンジンの導入は近年の諸問題への有効な解決手段の1 つと言える.本研究では過給ダウンサイジングを火花点火天然ガスエンジンに適用した場合の性能予測を行い,定常及び過渡運転時の壁面温度を計算することで点火進角による燃費改善の可能性を明らかにした
